Many takeout businesses like to use disposable plastic lunch boxes to pack meals, but not all plastic disposable boxes can be heated in the microwave.

Most plastic boxes will have a triangular logo with numbers on it.

Some people mistakenly think that the number here means that the plastic box can be reused several times: "1" means it can only be used once, "2" means it can be used twice

But this is not the case. The number here represents the material of plastic containers. The production materials are different, and the taboos are also different. Some are not resistant to high temperature, some are not easy to clean

There is only one material that is resistant to high temperature and suitable for microwave heating, that is polypropylene (PP), and the plastic material identification code is "5". Therefore, before putting the takeout into the microwave, be sure to check whether there is "PP" on the plastic lunch box or whether the triangular arrow is marked with "5".

If there is no corresponding mark on the disposable lunch box, it is best to change a container suitable for microwave oven for heating.

Of course, even the takeout box that can be heated by microwave is not recommended to be used again after heating once. Microwave heating and the original oil in food will accelerate the removal of some substances that may be harmful to the body in the packaging box. Moreover, the material of the takeout box is also relatively thin and brittle, which is not suitable for reuse.

Paper disposable tableware

Pay attention to whether there is plastic covering film

In addition to plastic disposable lunch boxes, many restaurants choose paper disposable tableware to pack food.

Generally speaking, this kind of packaging box with matte texture and no plastic film can be put into the microwave oven.

The biggest advantage of this kind of tableware is that it is relatively safe to use bagasse and other raw materials. Products with relatively good quality can also be heated in a microwave oven.

However, for the tableware made of cardboard and covered with plastic film, try not to heat it in the microwave oven.

The paper cups, instant noodles barrels and kraft paper tableware we often see all belong to this kind of tableware.

Most of the plastic films used in the internal coating of this kind of tableware are made of PE film. With the enhancement of environmental awareness, more and more businesses use degradable PLA film coated tableware. But these films are not resistant to high temperature and are not suitable for microwave heating.

In addition to this kind of tableware, some intimate businesses often wrap a layer of plastic wrap outside the takeout box in order to prevent the soup from splashing out.

To be on the safe side, try to tear off the plastic wrap and put it into the microwave oven. Because it is not clear whether the merchant uses PE polyethylene fresh-keeping film or PVC fresh-keeping film. PE can go into the microwave oven, but PVC can't (plasticizer will move out).

If you are worried about the splashing of soup during microwave heating, you can wrap it with the plastic wrap that states on the package that you can enter the microwave oven, or cover it with a microwave mask.
